The Basics

Ausbildung, explained simply.

Ausbildung (pronounced "ows-bil-doong") is the German word for vocational training. It is a government-recognized dual education system where you split your time between a training company and a vocational school. You are not just a student you are a trainee with a contract, earning a monthly allowance while you learn.

๐Ÿข
In-company training
3 to 4 days a week, you work at a real German company in your chosen field nursing home, restaurant, hotel, factory, or logistics company. You learn by doing, supervised by experienced professionals.
๐Ÿซ
Vocational school (Berufsschule)
1 to 2 days a week, you attend a German vocational school where you study theory technical knowledge, professional standards, and German language practice in your field.
๐Ÿ’ถ
Monthly allowance from day one
Unlike a regular student, you receive a monthly allowance throughout your training. For health and hospitality programs, this typically ranges from โ‚ฌ800 to โ‚ฌ1,200 depending on the field and company.
๐Ÿ“œ
Recognized German qualification
At the end of your Ausbildung, you receive a nationally recognized German qualification. This is not just a certificate it is a professional credential respected across Germany and the EU.
Why does Germany need Filipinos? Germany has one of the most severe skilled worker shortages in Europe. Over 1.7 million Ausbildung positions go unfilled every year. The healthcare, hospitality, and technical sectors are especially short-staffed and Germany has been actively looking to the Philippines as a source of motivated, qualified trainees.

Questions

Common questions about Ausbildung.

Most programs require at least B1 German before you can be placed. Some technical programs include one month of German training as part of the package but even in those cases, having some foundation helps. The earlier you start learning German, the more programs you will qualify for.
Ausbildung itself is free in the sense that you do not pay tuition to the German vocational school or the training company in fact, they pay you. However, there are program fees associated with placement, language training, visa processing, and pre-departure preparation. These fees vary depending on the program and accommodation needs.
Not during the Ausbildung itself. The vocational training visa is for the individual trainee. However, after completing your Ausbildung and transitioning to a work visa or residency, family reunification becomes possible.
After completing your Ausbildung, you receive your German qualification. Most trainees are offered full employment by the company they trained with. You can also apply for a skilled worker visa or begin accumulating points toward permanent residency in Germany.
Not exactly. Nursing Ausbildung (Pflegefachmann/frau) is a full 3-year training program that leads to a recognized German nursing qualification. It is not just a job placement it is a structured vocational education. After completing it, you are a fully licensed nurse in Germany with all the rights and career paths that come with that qualification.
